A coffee enema can be described as a type of natural colon cleanse that involves injecting coffee and water into the rectum and colon to cleanse the colon and liver and help the body effectively detoxify. Coffee enemas have been around since the late 1800s, and used to be a very common therapy used for healing and detoxification. They were made famous by the Max Gerson Institute in the 1950s and were an integral part of his famous natural cancer treatments. Coffee enemas are thankfully once again growing in popularity as people rediscover their health benefits and become disillusioned with essentially toxic modern pharmaceutical remedies. The thought of them can be a little off-putting at first but like most things we are apprehensive about the worry is unfounded. Once people have tried and got used to them, they are normally amazed at the health benefits they feel as a result.

In modern times coffee enemas have been rediscovered for assisting in the healing of:

-Cancer

-Candida

-Parasites

-Overdoses

-Digestive issues, such as constipation

-IBS

-Liver issues

How a Coffee Enema Works?

During the procedure, a thin tube is used to insert the coffee solution into the rectum. The hemorrhoid veins then absorb the caffeine contained in the coffee solution. This then goes on to travel up to the portal vein, which is responsible for transporting blood to the liver and gallbladder. The coffee solution stimulates an increase in bile flow and increases the opening of the liver’s bile ducts, which is extremely beneficial to the digestive system and to health in general. Toxins that have accumulated in the body are released and expelled from the body during this process.

Coffee enemas have been shown to increase glutathione s-transferase, an enzyme important in free radical neutralization and the master antioxidant used by the liver to detoxify.

What you’ll need to perform a coffee enema:

-Coffee, always organic if possible (a medium or dark roast is preferred)

-An enema kit (an enema bag or a stainless steel enema bucket)

-Spring or distilled water (do not use tap water unless it is carbon filtered)

-Something to boil water in

-A one liter glass jar

-A fine-mesh sieve

How to do a coffee enema for beginners

If using whole-bean coffee, grind the coffee. A large to medium grind is what will usually work best. If you grind your coffee too finely, the grounds will pass through the sieve and you’ll have grounds in your enema. This will not effect the enema quality, however it may possibly block the tube and make administration of the coffee enema less easy.

For 2 cups of  water use 1-2 teaspoons coffee, simmer for 10 minutes Beginners should start with 1 teaspoon coffee until they get a better idea as to how their bodies react.

Strain the coffee and pour it into a 1L glass jar.

Fill the liter jar with cool, filtered water.

Your coffee and water should be body temperature or below.

Pour 1/2 cup liquid into enema bag or bucket.

Prepare an old towel and a pillow to keep warm while performing the procedure.

Insert your enema tubing into your rectum (approximately 1-2 inches), release the clamp, and let the liquid slowly flow in.

10–15 minutes is a good time to retain the enema and a little longer if desired, if at any point you need to expel the coffee before that is fine as it can take a few times to get used to.

Clean the enema bag or bucket with soap and water. Run a little hydrogen peroxide 3% or 6% mixed with a little water through the hose to clean it. To disinfect the insertion tip wipe it with alcohol. Use the time doing the enema to relax and ideally do a little meditation. Before doing the initial coffee enema the whole process may seem a lot more complex than it really is but in actual fact it tends to become a very relaxing experience.

Useful tips

-It is always best if you can have a bowel movement before doing the coffee enema. If this is not possible you can do a plain water enema (room temperature) to help clear the bowels.  You can also take in just a little  coffee to help a bowel movement, then do the full enema.

-Sometimes if not used to the therapy, a coffee enema can make you jittery. If this happens just reduce the concentration of coffee. Always start with one teaspoon to see how you do and increase at the rate you feel comfortable.

-Initially it can be difficult to hold the enema. It will get much easier with time and it is usually a mental barrier. Learn to relax and enjoy the process.

-Doing a little reflexology by rubbing the feet is a very good accompanying therapy. It can help relax whilst also enhancing the effect of the enema. It will also help you relax

-Coffee enemas are highly detoxifying, always start slowly and build your way up.

-Once you have got used to it. It is a therapy that can be used daily for ongoing health benefits.

-Always make sure you are drinking 2-3 liters of spring or carbon filtered water daily to keep hydration optimal. If you are physically active and sweating make sure to increase your water intake even more. Most people today are simply not drinking enough quality water and neglecting this fundamental need. Drink plenty!
